ADV DIP IN ICT IN MULTIMEDIA APPLICATION

Course Aim:
The purpose of the qualification is to provide students with an advanced understanding of multimedia applications and to apply the critical competences and skills in multimedia as a specialised field. The Advanced Diploma in Information Technology in Multimedia Applications is designed to produce a graduate with the requisite specialist theoretical and practical skills in the latest technologies and tools employed within the field. This programme will strengthen and deepen the student's knowledge and develop the student's applied competence in analysing, interpreting, understanding and application of multimedia technologies and tools. It further develops the intellectual independence, research and professional skills of the student.
A rapidly changing technological and digital landscape demands practitioners and experts that can understand, respond to, drive and further the aims of the industries they serve. It further requires graduates that can research, reflect, innovate, problem solve and integrate knowledge in a discipline-specific way while serving general or specific societal needs.
The Advanced Diploma in Information Technology in Multimedia Applications is built on the foundations laid by the Diploma in ICT and aims to advance applied and general skills and offer a degree of specialization in the general Multimedia field. This multimedia specialization branches from Information Technology and thus has a particularly technological, design and user experience focus while being interdisciplinary in its overlap and reliance on media, communications, and design. The unique focus of the Advanced Diploma on media, culture and society from multimedia, digital and technological lens provides a substantial grounding for learners to be able to embrace future digital technological developments. In addition, the Advanced Diploma is structured in such a way that it prepares students for an academic career path should they wish to continue with a postgraduate diploma.

The Advanced Diploma in Information Technology in Multimedia Applications graduates will exit into industry and be able to occupy the following occupations that are multimedia specific: web and multimedia developer; multimedia specialist; digital media specialist; multimedia programmer; graphical programmer; web developer; website architect; multimedia technician; webmaster; graphic and multimedia designers; web designer; digital media designer; instructional designer; interactive media designer; web technician.
In addition, graduates may find themselves able to apply their skill sets to the following related occupations: service managers; ICT project manager; data management manager; application development manager; IT manager; ICT trainer; ICT account manager; ICT professional; software and applications developer and analyst; systems analyst; software developer.


Admission requirements:
A 360 credit Diploma in ICT in the field of specialisation with an average of 60% for the major subjects in the third year of the qualification.
A 360 credit National Diploma in IT with an average of 60% for the major subjects in the third year of the qualification.
A consonant diploma or degree qualification relevant to the specialisation field or any relevant computer science degree with a minimum of 60% in the final year of the qualification.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum admission requirements may be considered for admission based on recognition of prior learning, and/or prior work experience provided there are space available.
