B TECH: TAXATION
Course Aim:
The course equips students with the techniques and methods to enable them to apply theoretical knowledge of advanced taxation principles in practical situations. Students study income tax, VAT, estate duty, donations, capital gains, court cases, and the practice notes and regulations of the SA Revenue Service. This provides them with the requisite skills to start their own tax consultancies or to be employed by one.
Opportunities:
Graduates find employment as tax consultants in the public and private sectors.
Admission requirements:
A National Diploma (or equivalent qualification), with at least 60% in Financial Accounting III and Taxation I, is required.
A tax specialist should have:
A combination of business acumen and creativity
The ability to analyse a problem logically
The ability to adapt to changing circumstances
The temperament to be studious and to inquire about matters of which they have no knowledge
A pleasant personality and the ability to speak with authority
The courage of his or her convictions
