HORTICULTURAL SCIENCES
DIPLOMA IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE (ECP)

Course Aim:
Landscape Architecture aims to equip practice-orientated professionals with the required knowledge of design principles and procedures, the utilisation of ornamental plants and the proficiency to implement and manage landscape projects and installations.

The course develops practice-orientated professionals who have knowledge of design and plants, combined with the necessary technical ability to implement and management landscape projects. This qualification is accredited by SACLAP.


Opportunities:
The increasing demand for environmental quality has led to the rapid expansion of landscape planning as a career, concentrating on the development of aesthetically pleasing, functional and ecologically stable landscape spaces for the community. Graduates will work in drafting in the offices of landscape architects, or on contract sites implementing landscape construction plans, either in private practice, municipal or parastatal entities.


Admission requirements:
National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) with:
. English Home or First Additional Language (4)
. Mathematics (3) or Mathematical Literacy (5)
. Physical Sciences (4) or Life Sciences (4)

Three of the following:
. Life Sciences (3), Physical Sciences (3), Accounting (3), Applied Science (3), Business (3), Economics (3), Geography (3), Information Technology (3), Visual Arts (3), Engineering Graphics & Design (3)

Subject to space, students may be admitted to th Foundation Programme if they have at least 40% (3) for Physical Sciences or Life Sciences.

The department utilises an Admission Point Score (APS) as selection criteria once your minimum admission requirements are satisfied. You also have to score a minimum of 25 with Mathematics and 27 with Mathematical Literacy for the Foundation Programme on the APS
