POSTGRAD DIPLOMA IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Course Aim:
This qualification aims to promote specialization and advanced knowledge within the mechanical engineering industry nationally and international.

Purpose and Rationale of the Qualification
The purpose of this qualification is to equip students with advanced knowledge within the mechanical engineering space so that they can function adequately in a multidisciplinary engineering environment and to give necessary exposure to research methodology, management and project work so that they are adequately prepared for research at Master’s qualification level.

Professional Registration
The programme is yet to be accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as it is being offered for the first time in 2023. The provisional accrediation visit will be done in 2023.

Opportunities:

Completion of the program meets the minimum entry requirement for admission to an appropriate Master’s degree.

Admission requirements:
• An NQF level 7 Advanced Diploma; Bachelor of Engineering Technology; or Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering or a cognate qualification.
Students should obtain an average of 60% for the qualification, or 60% in the final year of the NQF level 7 qualification, or if the applicant does not have the average of 60%, an additional requirement of at least 12 months of relevant Mechanical Engineering experience post obtaining the NQF level 7 qualification would be required.

If the applicant has an international qualification, that qualification must be evaluated by SAQA’s (South African
